The Anjou lays in Maine et Loire, one which is known for its fine wines, cheeses, Cointreaux and more good food and drink.
The region benefits from its location directly behind Brittany and Normandy, as is reflected in the abundant supply of pancakes, sour cream, fruit, seafood, cheeses, artichokes, strawberries, asparagus etc etc.
The term "La Douce France"originated in this very fertile region with its mild climate.
One speaks here also of "La Douceur Angevine" in stories, poems and songs.

CULTURE AND HERATIDGE

Bauge is a typical medieval town with a rich history. In the castle, dating from the 15th century, the tourist information is situated, where in addition to information on attractions etc. in the area and there are walking and cycling routes available.
On every July 14th is a medieval feast and on the square outside the castle performed a large fireworks.

La Fleche is best known for the Prytannee, military training in France. At the time of Napoleon it is housed in a former convent. La Loir, which is much smaller river than the Loire, but his big sister is similar in area, flows through La Fleche. Also along Le Loir, one can find many caves formerly lived in, and which now serve as storage for wines and breeding ground for mushrooms etc.

Typical of this region are several twisted steeples examples in Pontigne and Fougere.

Almost every village has its own "plan d'eau" (artificial lake) for fishing and picnicking and you can there sometimes swim.
Many washrooms have been refurbished or restored. They are located along streams and rivers or the "plan d'eau '.

Many forests that were previously exclusive to the rich and nobility were open to everyone.

You can picnic, hiking, horse riding and cycling.

Ancient crafts of the region are honored in various centers in the area.

NATURE

The region is very watery and sloping (sometimes hilly) and caracteristic are its woods, forests, castles, farmyards, orchards and some wine yards.
In summer it becomes about 25 degrees C. and it has about 2000 hours of sun a year.
It is, also because of the friendly climate, one of the most fertile regions in France; it is not for nothing that so many nobles and rich people went there to have a rich life and for instance built so many castles.There’s about twenty smaller or bigger castles in the vicinity of about 5 miles.
They are mostly private properties.

 

 

 

 

CLIMATE AND WEATHER

The temperature in the summer is an average 25 degrees with about 2000 hours of sunshine per year.
(The Netherlands has some 1500 hours of sunshine).
It has a mild climate in the backyard of Brittany, but it can be pretty and wind storms.
Fortunately, this is always very short. Advantage of the area is that you always feel a storm coming, then it is equally fierce blow.
But more can enjoy at night a starry sky. There's absolutely no light pollution. The air is clean and pure.
